Bill Douglas is CEO of OpticWise, the firm he has led since bringing managed-services discipline from manufacturing into commercial real estate. OpticWise was founded in 2004 as Summit Networks and rebranded in 2015. Under Bill's leadership, the company designs, builds, and operates owner-controlled data & digital infrastructure for CRE owners across multifamily, office, and mixed-use properties.
Bill is co-author (with Drew Hall) of Peak Property Performance®: Game-Changing AI and Digital Strategies for Commercial Real Estate (Fast Company Press, 2025), a 2026 Amazon Best Seller. The book introduces the 5C™ Framework (Clarify, Connect, Collect, Coordinate, Control), a vendor-agnostic playbook for CRE owners to own their data & digital infrastructure, grow NOI, and build AI readiness without vendor lock-in.
He co-hosts the Peak Property Performance® Podcast, where he and Drew Hall unpack the strategies helping CRE owners reduce costs, increase NOI, and build owner-controlled digital assets. The show has produced nearly 50 episodes featuring CRE owners, operators, and technology leaders.
Bill's work sits at the intersection of CRE strategy, data ownership, AI readiness, and enterprise value. His operating thesis: the value in commercial real estate has shifted from connectivity (which is now table stakes) to the data layer. Owners who control their data & digital infrastructure control their outcomes. Owners who don't, cede that control to their vendors.
Bill has published several hundred articles on CRE data ownership, AI readiness, NOI strategy, and vendor governance, and is recognized as a leader in the data & digital infrastructure ownership movement.
Before CRE, Bill built and led companies across manufacturing, managed services, and technology. He is a serial entrepreneur who brings managed-services operating discipline to an industry that has historically underinvested in its own digital capability.
